Make things, crafts with your children and make clothes for their dolls like my mom use to do and make doll furniture from cardboard. String popocorn and cranberries for the tree.

How to Get Christmas Help for Low Income Families

Step 1

Contact local charities and civic organizations to find out about their outreach to the needy during Christmastime. Catholic Charities offers help to the needy year round, with extra food baskets, toys and emergency assistance during the holidays. Christmas help for low income families might be as close as the local Catholic Charities or other nearby civic charity office.

  • Step 2
    Salvation Army

Find out if there is a Salvation Army in your area. The Salvation Army will often help with toy vouchers, food, clothing vouchers and other means. Their classic bell ringers collect donations to help the needy, and they put these donations to good use providing Christmas help for low income families.

  • Step 3
    Churches

Inquire at your church, asking the pastor or community outreach coordinator about receiving assistance for your family or a needy family you know. If your church is collecting food items or toys for Christmas giving, ask if you qualify to be a recipient.

  • Step 4

Explore area churches, especially those in wealthier neighborhoods, for additional assistance in providing holiday gifts, winter clothing, jackets and food for your family. Many religious congregations have committees organized to help coordinate Christmas help for low income families.

  • Step 5
    Utility help

Ask the utility company for information about winter assistance with heating and electric bills. Find out what programs they refer needy families to in order to receive assistance keeping the electricity on.

  • Step 6
    Christmas toy drive

Keep an eye out for local toy drives and food drives. Contact the coordinators about the needy family you are helping, to find out if there is extra for them.

  • Step 7
    Basket of bread

Look up your local food bank and find out the requirements to receive food and produce through them, and if they have extra food baskets during the holidays to help provide Christmas help for low income families.

  • Step 8
    Friends help

Accept offers from family and friends to help out in your time of need. That's what friends and family are for--to help each other through the rough times, together.

    Concerning PTR Sites
By Lady ChristiePost message to Lady Christie

    Posted on Jul 19, 2007

You have probably noticed one PTR site on here. Now I am not putting this site down, it has a reputation of paying members and from what I have read is a good site to be a part of. This is not what I want to talk about.

First off I was naïve and joined quite a few PTR’s in the past; low $5 payouts, high $35 payouts, sign up bonuses and payouts weekly I thought wow I could join this many and make this much a week all by reading my emails. Let me tell you it’s not that easy, yes I did make an income, it was enough to cover my internet and it was hard work. You see what these programs don’t tell you and what the people who want you to sign up under them don’t tell you is that the only way to make money doing these is to have referrals. Now getting referrals isn’t an easy task. You have to be active anywhere that gives you an opportunity to promote your link, sometimes you join other ptr programs just to promote your links and it goes on and on. It is hard work until you build a nice downline.

I would spend 12 hours on the computer a day just reading emails, then time and time again I was fighting spyware and viruses I would pick up from these programs. To me it wasn’t worth the hassle.

My advice to you if you join any paid to read email programs know what you are getting into. There are many legit programs who will pay you just realize the work that has to be put into getting paid.

ONE WORD TO YOU " YOU ARE A NASTY WITCH". THIS WAS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS AND DO NOT EVER EMAIL ME AGAIN. EVERYTHING YOU HAVE SAID ABOUT ME IS TOTALLY NOT TRUE. WHEN PEOPLE LOOK AT MY SITE, THEY CAN READ THAT THEY HAVE TO GET PEOPLE TO JOIN. I ALSO TELL THEM THAT IN ORDER TO MAKE SOME DECENT MONEY, YOU NEED TO GET PEOPLE TO JOIN. I HAVE BEEN DOING THE WORK-AT-HOME JOB FOR 3 WEEKS AND HAVE GOTTEN OVER 65 PEOPLE TO JOIN. IT CERTAINLY DID NOT TAKE ME 12 HOURS A DAY TO DO THIS EITHER. I HAVE GOTTEN PAID AND AM ALREADY MAKING SOME GOOD MONEY. I DO NOT LIE TO PEOPLE. I TELL THEM AS IT IS. JUST WHO ARE YOU TO PUT THIS DOWN. IF YOU SPENT 12 HOURS A DAY, YOU MUST BE PRETTY DUMB!!!! IT TAKES ME MAYBE AN HOUR A DAY(IF THAT). GET REAL LADY. ITS PEOPLE JUST LIKE YOU THAT LIKE TO STIR UP THE CRAP. THANK YOU FOR THAT.

For one thing it is my business to make sure people here are well informed, I am here to help people and therefore I will inform people of things they may or may not understand.

Well if everything I said is untrue then I guess me saying your program pays is untrue and that it is a good site to be a member of is untrue.

Not once did I put you down so don't put me down. I only want people here to understand what they may not understand. If they are better informed then they can make wise decisions.

And one last thing you may not lie to people but you mislead them to me there is no difference.

I just want to say that I agree with Lady Christie in this "conversation".

In no way did she put Hondamatic down , or even mention their name , for that matter.

There are many people who are misinformed about pyramid schemes and other ways of making money on the net, and Lady Christie was trying to help these people by telling them her experience.

The way you responded , Hondamatic , was very defensive . I am not sure what the PM was all about , but if you want people to go for the hit4pay idea , the way you lashed out to Lady Christie on this site isn't going to edure people to you so that they sign up.

This is , of course , my own opinion.

SHE ALSO SAID THAT PEOPLE ARE NOT INFORMED. I TOTALLY INFORM EVERYONE WHO IS WANTING TO JOIN. IT STATES IT IN THE LETTER. lady christie TALKED TO ME ABOUT SOME THINGS AND THEN SHE GOES AND WRITES ALL THIS CRAP. I HAVE BEEN DOING THIS(ALSO TO MAKE SOME EXTRA MONEY), AND LIKE I SAID, I TELL EVERYONE UP FRONT THAT IT MAY TAKE SOME TIME TO MAKE SOME GOOD MONEY. lady christie EMAILED ME AND TOLD ME THAT I SHOULD TELL PEOPLE THAT THEY WON'T INSTANTLY MAKE MONEY. I AGREED AND THEN SHE WROTE THIS. WHY??? IN HER LETTER, SHE GOES ON ABOUT HOW SHE TRIED NUMEROUS WORK AT HOME JOBS AND DID NOT MAKE MUCH, JUST ENOUGH TO PAY HER INTERNET. SOMETIMES, ITS BETTER TO MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS. I AM NOT HURTING ANYONE AND PEOPLE ARE TOTALLY INFORMED ABOUT THIS PART-TIME JOB.

I want to clarify for everyone I did not email Hondamatic numerous times (Isent him one message and then replied to his message) also just so everyone knows I was not rude to this person. If this person wouldn't have deleted my messages everyone would see that I had only mentioned the only way to make money with programs such as the one this person was promoting was to build a downline. At this time it was not mentioned in their ad that you needed a downline to make $50 a week. Nothing is clearly stated on the frontpage of the website this person is promoting you have to go to another page which explains about referral bonuses.

Like I said before I am not putting down the program, it is a very nice program and I have only heard good things about this program. I just don't think it should be advertised in a misleading way.

    Hondamatic,

Excuse me, but I just saw your reply to Lady Christie.

First of all, let me say this: I, too, have done "hits for pay" and the majority of MY time was spent reading emails and since I did not troll boards scrounging up members, I never received a dime.

My initial reaction to your post was disgust, but I felt it was harmless compared to most solicitations we receive here. BUT NOW, you have not only insulted, but were incredibly rude to someone who has spent more time helping people than you could ever imagine and you deny it to soulight.

Your post is nothing more than a solicitation to increase your downline so YOU can receive more money. The more people you get signing up, the more $ YOU make - isn't that right? However, you failed to mention THAT in your post didn't you?

Do everyone here a favor, apologize to LADY CHRISTIE, then take your solicitation elsewhere. No one here needs your kind of "help".

Just a heads up for everybody that is low income and doing some sort of work. Don't forget the Earned Income Tax Credit this year when you file your income tax! ! !
You may recieve a good chunk of money if your qualify  ! ! !

It’s easier than ever to find out if you qualify for EITC

The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) sometimes called the Earned Income Credit (EIC), is a refundable federal income tax credit for low-income working individuals and families. Congress originally approved the tax credit legislation in 1975 in part to offset the burden of social security taxes and to provide an incentive to work. When the EITC exceeds the amount of taxes owed, it results in a tax refund to those who claim and qualify for the credit.

To qualify, taxpayers must meet certain requirements and file a tax return, even if they did not earn enough money to be obligated to file a tax return.

PLEASE remember our veterans this weekend. Freedom is highly valued in our country and we have many veterans from many different wars for that freedom. If you know a veteran , give them a pat on the back or a hug and a high 5 and tell them how much what they have done means to you.

Here is a quote and a site link that help veterans sort out what type of organization to use for thier assistance :

"What Does a Veteran Service Organization Do?

Veteran Service Organizations exist to serve you and support your specific needs. Whether you are interested in reconnecting with your branch of service, networking with other veterans who share your disability, maximizing your VA benefits, learning more about current legislation or even researching the many programs in place to get you involved in recreation or employment. With histories dating back to many of America’s wars, and proven track records for putting veterans first, the following organizations, as well as a host of other local, regional and national VSO’s put the needs of the disabled veteran first."

Do you have a loved one in the military that is injured and in a military medical facility ? Here is something that may help you visit them :

"Because members of the military and their families are stationed worldwide and must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, Fisher House Foundation donates "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times - during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury.

There is at least one Fisher House at every major military medical center to assist families in need and to ensure that they are provided with the comforts of home in a supportive environment."

    04/03/09

A stimulus check should be coming to veterans who qualify . Here is a quote and a link for more qualifying information :

"As part of the President’s Recovery plan, VA will also make one-time payments of $250 to eligible Veterans and survivors to mitigate the effects of the current economy.  These payments will be issued as early as June 2009.  VA estimates $700 million in payments will be made to eligible beneficiaries as part of this measure.

To be eligible for the $250 payment, VA beneficiaries must have received compensation, pension, dependency and indemnity compensation (DIC), or spina bifida benefits at any time between November 2008 and January 2009.  Also, beneficiaries must reside within the United States or Puerto Rico, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa, or the U.S. Virgin Islands. No application is necessary.  VA will use its existing payment records to determine eligibility for the $250 payment."

This is very important information for the mental health of our military heros . Nothing should keep people from seeking help for their health , mental or physical .

The following consists of excerpts from the article . To read the complete article , follow the link at the end of the excerpts.

E-News from Washington Vol. 08-21 May 9, 2008 Department of Defense Announces New Policy on Disclosure of Mental Health Treatment

.........................On May 1, 2008, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates announced that military personnel will no longer have to disclose any service-related mental health treatment they have received when they apply for security clearance. The security question, referred to as “Question 21,” has been an obstacle to members of the military seeking mental health care. ..........

..........................Previously, military personnel and others applying for the clearance who had sought treatment for PTSD and other mental disorders had to respond “yes” and provide details of the treatment. . In 2007, a report by the Army’s inspector general found that soldiers were hesitant to seek treatment because they worried about losing their security clearances .........

.........................In addition, an April 2008 report released by Rand Corporation found that approximately 20 percent, or 300,000, of service members returning from Iraq or Afghanistan report symptoms of PTSD or major depression, but only slightly more than half have sought treatment. This survey and others have shown that a major reason service members do not get help is the fear that it will harm their careers. ................................

...........................“It’s time for leaders of all stripes to step forward,” adding, “You can’t expect a private or a specialist to be willing to seek counseling when his or her captain or colonel or general won’t do it.” .......................

    "Operation Happy Note

is a volunteer effort to send musical instruments to our deployed service men and women throughout the world.

Steve and Barb Baker from Fergus Music started Operation Happy Note after their son was deployed to Iraq. They had sent him a guitar and then a buddy wanted one.

These soldiers were so pleased with having these instruments over there that Steve and Barb wanted to find a way to get more instruments to our troops, hence “Operation Happy Note”.

Since March of 2005 we have sent hundreds of instruments including guitars, mandolins, banjos, violins, harmonicas, and accessories. Steve also wrote a lesson program with CD for those who don’t know how to play.

“We can’t stop now!” says Barb, just because her son is now back home with his family. There are just too many requests that keep coming in, these soldiers need the joy that music brings to them."

FOR VETERANS AND THOSE IN THE MILITARY CONSIDERING CIVILIAN LIFE This is another wonderful resource courtesy of Elaine of TSA. Transitions from military to civilian life are made smoother with the assistance of the Veterans Resource Central . They provide everything at a very low cost or free to veterans and their families.

    Veterans Resource Central

     The VRC provides information
and guidance to veterans transitioning to civilian life, to military families challenged by life
issues at home, as well as to active duty individuals considering civilian careers. We introduce
veterans to a network of community business leaders many of whom are veterans, family
members of veterans or who just care about veterans and want to help you with your transition.

. The goal of VRC, a Pennsylvania-based, non-profit organization, is to
help returning veterans adjust to civilian life and discover appropriate career options. We have
consolidated many resources in a central clearinghouse and continue to incorporate additional
    resources.

    Our Services

VRC combines technology and people helping people. The support VRC provides veterans is at
a low or no cost to them. Through our partners, we provide the following services:

    • Career planning
    • Job placement
    • Business start up
    • Family support
    • Peer-to-peer assistance and support

The families of our casualties suffer in many ways: some financially, some psychologically. Wounded Warriors mitigates their trauma by allowing them to find peace and solace as a family once more in family-friendly resorts that we provide free of charge. The resort condominiums that we own in Orlando, Florida and Galveston, Texas are quiet havens where war torn families can reunite and become stronger.

Note: This aidpage was started as a comment on "Home page of sl or soulight , (my page for single moms)"

Donated Dental Services (DDS) The Donated Dental Services (DDS) program is a collaborative, direct way that the dental profession reaches out to individuals with special needs. Because of the extraordinary compassion of over 2,600 dental laboratories and 12,000 dentists across the country, DDS tends to the essential and comprehensive dental care needs of our nation’s most vulnerable people; disabled, elderly or medically-compromised individuals who cannot afford necessary treatment nor get public aid. DDS patients have slipped through the cracks of Medicaid and Medicare programs with nowhere else to turn.

This is the Christmas page from the AllThingsFrugal site. Just put your blinders on for all the ads they have , and you will find some good stuff.

ALL THINGS FRUGAL CHRISTMAS AND GIFTS

The Fraternal Order of Police have a wonderful program called  SHOP WITH A COP. In order to find out about it , you need to contact the local lodge of the FOP in your town. Not all the lodges take part in the program. This is worth doing some homework to find it in your area.

Here is some stuff you can do without money  This stuff is free, or made with items you can get with food stamps:

Make a popcorn Garland Or one from those fruit flavored cereals(the 'loop' kind)

Watch Christmas shows together with hot chocolate(stir with candy canes) and popcorn and show on tv is free. If you don’t have a tv-walk to free activities in churches or museums or libraries. My daughter and I did ,and we had great conversations walking together that we would not have had if we stayed home and moped around.

    Make a snowman

    Have a snowball fight

Make a ginger bread house out of graham crackers and what ever you have in the house Make cement from powdered sugar and water. It is cheaper than store bought icing.

    GRAHAM CRACKER HOUSES

Paint Christmassy pictures on the windows with washable paint Add a little dish soap to make it come off easier.

Make a game out of hunting around the house, for things to make Christmas decorations . Let the stuff kids find be good memories even if it is “silly” to you.

Here are some really nice ornaments to make about the true meaning of Christmas. You can make them from paper and markers/crayons OR fabice/felt. Whatever you have .

    CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS

Go caroling or just sing Christmas carols at home. Singing can make you feel better !

Page 2 has free Christmas Carol sheet music to print out !

    PAGE 2 CHRISTMAS

Attend a live Nativity –churches have free ones. Some are outside , so if you live in a cold climate , dress warmly !

Go collect pine cones and use them to make ornaments

TIP :   First bake the cones on a foil-lined cookie sheet for about  an hour at  200 degrees. This kills any bugs or spider mites(or who knows what else !) that live in them. This also allows the seeds to fall out. If you want the pine cone to close up again , just plunge it in cold water.

    PINE CONE CRAFTS

Have the kids write and act out a Christmas play

Rent videos from the library and have a movie marathon. Stay up all night if you want !

Have a game night –you sometimes borrow these at the library too. Or invite other single mom families and tell them to bring what games they have.

     More Christmas ideas and thoughts from   W H O ~ K N E W (an aidmate!)

I was reading your posts about Christmas and I remember we used to take the dough recipe (you posted) along cookie cutter and make ornaments. Roll the dough out to about ¼ in thick. Cut out different shapes with cookie cutters – holiday shapes, or even a simple round cup can be used. Remember to cut a small hole at the top to put yarn through! Let them dry overnight and then paint or decorate with glue and sparkles or other decorations. Hang on tree and enjoy your homemade Christmas tree!

Another decoration that NEVER goes out of style is the paper chains. Cut colorful strips of construction paper about ¼ wide and 2inches long. Glue the ends together, take another strip, loop it through the first and glue together. Great for stringing over doorways or using as garland on the tree! If you do not have colored construction paper, us plain white paper and color the strips before gluing together. Not only does it look beautiful, but it is a great way to spend time together. just a thought...

MAKE DOLL FOODS ( CUTE !)

And here is a clay you can make and use for the doll foods :

    Homemade Cornstarch Clay

Clay to use for play or make  doll food , ornaments and sculptures.

    Large saucepan
    2 cups baking soda
    1 cup cornstarch
    1 cup water
    Paints and brushes (optional)

Stir the cornstarch, baking soda and water together in the saucepan thoroughly and bring to a boil on medium to medium-high heat, stirring constantly. Turn off the heat and continue stirring until the mixture is the texture of mashed potatoes, then cover and cool to room temperature.

The clay is now ready for play! Use it for play or make ornaments and sculptures.

    Dry your clay
Allow the clay to air dry, turning the piece over every 12 hours. If your oven is capable of baking at less than 200 degrees Fahrenheit, you may choose that option, though the ornaments will be more brittle.

You can make ornaments too :

Roll out 1/8- to ¼-inch-thick slabs of clay. Cut out shapes with cookie cutters or children’s play knives. Poke holes large enough to thread a ribbon or fishing line through, using a pencil or other object. Use watercolors or other paint after it dries.

Combine sugar and syrup and boil for 1 minute. Do not stir. Add Jello and mix, pour over popcorn and mix well. Add sprinkles if desired. Then grease hands with butter and make into balls. Make sure popcorn is cool, but not too cool.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    ALL PURPOSE PLAY  DOUGH    CLAY
This play dough clay is scented and colored.

    SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

YOU ARE THE ONE WHO SETS THE TONE FOR  THE HOLIDAYS  AND THE  HOLIDAY CHEER IN YOUR HOUSE. IF YOU ACT LIKE IT IS A HORRIBLE HOLIDAY, YOUR KIDS WILL TOO.
SO , TRY TO FIND THE THINGS YOU CAN BE JOYFUL ABOUT THIS TIME OF YEAR. START WITH SMALL STUFF THEN BUILD UP TO BIGGER THINGS TO BE JOYFUL ABOUT.
YOUR KIDS WILL LEARN THE DEEPER THINGS THIS WAY. BEFORE YOU KNOW IT , YOU WILL HAVE A DIFFERENT TRADITION STARTED. ONE ABOUT BEING HAPPY WITH WHAT YOU DO HAVE.

Here is a posting from the previous holiday page that has some great advice:

     1. SierraStar posted on Oct 18, 2006
You know I like what you said that we're the ones who set the tone for the holidays. We've never had a lot of money to spend on gifts, I feel bad for my kids when they have to go to school and here all the gifts everyone else has gotten. But no matter how little we have we do what we can for others. I used to work at a nursing home and I had to work Christmas a few times and it was very sad for me to see that a lot of the residents family never came to see them and after the first time I seen this the next year we made everyone a little gift and we dressed up in our holiday best and spent the day with the residents. We do this every year now, and my kids look forward to it. I've always taught them it's better to give from your heart then your wallet.

I also wanted to add when we first bought our fake Christmas tree 10 yrs ago we couldn't afford ornaments. I decided every year my kids would make something special for the tree. Until they could write I would write on an ornament shaped piece of paper what I loved about my children or what is special about them, now every year we all write something special about eachother and afterward I take my packing tape and put over it and we hang them on the tree. I love my tree because it's a symbol of my family.
